rumkugelbahn
a 'sweet' representation of Vienna Design Week

Originally created as the Vienna Design Week Embassy for the DMY Design Festival in Berlin (2010), rumkugelbahn is a playful, large-scale installation in the form of a marble run—except that it uses rum-filled chocolate balls in place of marbles.
As the chocolate balls travel along the winding tracks, they touch, bump into, and interact with a curated selection of design objects from previous Vienna Design Week editions. By following the motion of the chocolate, viewers are gently guided to observe each piece along the route, focusing their attention on the objects’ details and positions within the track.
The installation encourages both curiosity and observation—and at its end, rewards the audience with the chocolate itself. Since its premiere in Berlin, rumkugelbahn has also been presented in Vienna and Prague.
